Stuttgart /Brunsbüttel – Jan Peters from Lower Saxony has covered 1000 kilometres all over Germany in his 1949 Unimog and in the process has collected donations for a social charity. At last count, around 10,000 euros had been donated for the "Freundeskreis Hospiz Dithmarschen e. V." (Friends of the Dithmarschen Hospice) charity. The agricultural and economics journalist from Brunsbüttel near Hamburg inherited the historic Unimog from his grandfather. The vehicle was manufactured as part of a pre-series for the first Unimog which, at the time, was produced by the Boehringer machine manufacturer in Göppingen. The three-pointed star came somewhat later. The Unimog is powered by the Mercedes-Benz OM 636 diesel engine which manages to develop 25 hp from its 1.7-litre displacement – a sizeable figure for vehicles at the time.
