Stuttgart – In Germany alone, around 470 young people have started their career at Daimler Truck in six truck and bus plants and 29 branches in these weeks. The range of trainings  offered is diverse, with young people being able to choose from 18 apprenticeships and nine dual study courses tailored to increase digitalization and need for IT skills. It ranges from industrial mechanic to business informatics studies in software engineering. With regard to the transformation of the commercial vehicle industry toward zero-emission driving, Daimler Truck is increasingly focusing on professions in the high-voltage sector. The company has already been training automotive mechatronics technicians for system and high-voltage technology for more than five years, and in the commercial vocational trainings Daimler Truck is successfully focusing on IT specialists for application development.

"We are delighted about the new young talents and the creative minds with strong ideas who give the company further impetus. They inspire with their curiosity, motivation and passion for mobility. These young colleagues are at the heart of the transformation of the commercial vehicle industry and are shaping the mobility of tomorrow," says Jürgen Hartwig, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck responsible for Human Resources and Labor Director.

Vocational training at Daimler Truck

Thanks to additional technology modules, Industry 4.0 and digitalization are an integral part of the training programs at Daimler Truck. At the German locations, digitalization offers new opportunities for resource-saving and effective learning - formats such as Virtual Paint and Virtual Welding, digital simulations of painting and welding processes, are an integral part of the training plans. In addition to technical qualifications, the main focus is on the personal development of young colleagues, with the feedback tool "Entwicklung im Dialog" for example. In six to eight rounds of reflection and in joint development discussions between trainers and trainees and students, the young colleagues receive targeted support in developing their professional and social skills.

As part of the Erasmus+ program (https://www.erasmusplus.de/erasmus/), Daimler Truck also promotes and expands language, intercultural and personal skills of the trainees and their trainers. Under the name "Truck goes Global", interested apprentices have the opportunity to work for up to six weeks each year, mainly in other European countries (Finland, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkiye). There they learn about our production and service areas on site, new technologies and training methods, among other things.

While the new vocational training year has just started, the application process for 2023 is already underway at all German sites. Interested students can find out more and apply at www.daimlertruck.com/karriere. Daimler Truck expressly welcomes applications from young people with disabilities. The company sees diversity as an opportunity and consciously focuses on the diversity of its employees.
