Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH, or rnv for short, is setting an important standard for increasing environmental friendliness in local public transport within the Rhine-Neckar region: The world’s first all-electric Mercedes Benz eCitaro articulated buses from series production with a fuel cell as a range extender and a range of up to 400 kilometers are in use in urban traffic throughout the cities of Mannheim and Heidelberg.

Daimler Buses has won a total of six awards at the international trade fair Busworld, held from 7 to 12 October in Brussels. The specialist panel at Busworld Awards honoured the eCitaro with the “Grand Award Bus” and the “Comfort Label” awards. The Setra TopClass S 516 HDH received the “Grand Award Coach” as well as two “Coach Comfort” and “Coach Safety” label awards.

The introduction of the new Citaro hybrid buses from Mercedes-Benz with a length of around twelve metres in the signature red white and blue paintwork of Kyma Mobilità is not only improving the mobility and efficiency of local public transport but also demonstrating the transport operator’s commitment to a more environmentally friendly city and a better quality of life for the residents and visitors to Taranto.

At the beginning of June, Mercedes-Benz showcased the new eCitaro fuel cell for the very first time, the first regular-service bus with a fuel cell to extend the range. Before the start of series production, the eCitaro fuel cell had to pass numerous functional and safety tests. This also included a winter alpine crossing – a test run with many challenges.

Within three years, Lyst-Reisen from Zellingen in Franconia has purchased 34 Mercedes-Benz Citaros. At the end of June, Sinisa Ristic of Mercedes-Benz Buses Sales recently presented ten Citaro buses to Stefan Lyding and Junior manager Marcel Lyding, the management of Lyst-Reisen, at the bus plant in Mannheim. The order comprises five Citaro articulated buses and five Citaro hybrid solo vehicles.

Verkehrsbetriebe-Hamburg-Holstein GmbH public transport provider has ordered 95 Mercedes-Benz eCitaro/eCitaro G buses. The first of the fully electrically powered and locally emission-free buses is expected to be delivered by the end of this year, while the other vehicles will be delivered in the first half of 2024. In addition, VHH has secured an option for a maximum of 155 further vehicles by 2028.
