Avoiding dangers, saving lives: the new unparalleled assistance systems in buses and coaches from Mercedes-Benz and Setra
- Premiere: Active Brake Assist 4, the first-ever emergency braking assist system with pedestrian detection for touring coaches – as standard
- Premiere: Preventive Brake Assist, the first ever active brake assist system for city buses
- Premiere: Sideguard Assist, the first ever turning assistant for city buses and touring coaches
Mercedes‑Benz and Setra are the safety brands among buses and coaches. Nearly all safety and assistance systems celebrated their premiere here. One example in this regard is the emergency braking assistance system Active Brake Assist, whose first generation was presented exactly ten years ago. The next major steps are following now: Active Brake Assist 4 is the first-ever emergency braking assistance system that also brakes for pedestrians. It will become standard equipment on the touring coaches from Mercedes‑Benz and Setra in 2019. Preventive Brake Assist is the first active brake assist system ever for city buses. Sideguard Assist is the first assistance system to warn of pedestrians, cyclists and stationary obstacles when turning right.
Active Brake Assist 4: the first-ever emergency braking assistance system with pedestrian detection for touring coaches
Preventing accidents and protecting more vulnerable road users are central facets of safety development at Daimler Buses. The new Active Brake Assist 4 – ABA 4, for short – with pedestrian detection marks a new high point in the development of assistance systems. Not only will it automatically initiate emergency braking for moving and stationary obstacles ahead, it additionally warns the driver visually and audibly of a potential collision with pedestrians and at the same time automatically initiates partial braking. This gives the driver every opportunity to prevent a collision with a pedestrian: The driver can warn the pedestrian using the horn, initiate an emergency stop or steer to avoid the collision.
Multi-mode radar systems with a range of up to 250 m
The new Active Brake Assist 4 with pedestrian detection is the logical evolution of the existing tried and tested Active Brake Assist 3, which already carries out emergency braking for moving vehicles ahead as well as for stationary obstacles. The technology of ABA 4 with pedestrian detection is based on a new generation of radar technology. The electronically scanning multi-mode radar comprises long-range and short-range radar systems.
ABA 4 from 2019 as standard for touring coaches from Mercedes‑Benz and Setra
Safety is an absolute top priority for Daimler Buses, which is why Active Brake Assist 4 will become standard equipment in all touring coaches from Mercedes‑Benz and Setra from the first quarter 2019: Mercedes‑Benz Tourismo RHD, Setra ComfortClass 500 and TopClass 500 including the Setra S 531 DT double-decker bus.
Preventive Brake Assist, the first ever active brake assist system for city buses
In Preventive Brake Assist, Mercedes‑Benz introduces the first active emergency braking assist system ever for city buses as a world premiere. The new assistance system warns of a potential collision with moving pedestrians as well as of stationary or moving objects, and automatically initiates partial braking if there is a critical risk of collision. The warning cascade and the braking intervention are designed for use in city traffic.
The operating principle of Preventive Brake Assist
Preventive Brake Assist works similarly to Active Brake Assist 4. In the event of an impending collision, Preventive Brake Assist warns the driver audibly as well as visually with a red triangle featuring a vehicle symbol lighting up on the central display, and initiates partial braking at the same time. The driver can override the intervention at any time. Preventive Brake Assist intentionally does not perform an automatic emergency stop. This reduces the risk of injury to passengers on the bus. However, the option of an individually initiated emergency stop is always available to the driver.
Preventive Brake Assist uses a radar system similarly to Active Brake Assist 4. It detects obstacles such as moving pedestrians in nearly all traffic situations. For example, when they cross the bus's path, step out from behind an obstacle or are moving along the lane. Pedestrians are also detected within the range of the radar system when the vehicle turns off to the left and right.
Available for the entire family of city buses of the Mercedes-Benz Citaro
Preventive Brake Assist is optionally available for the entire family of models of the Mercedes‑Benz Citaro, including the Citaro G articulated bus, the low‑entry Citaro LE, the inter-city bus Citaro G/GÜ and the large-capacity bus CapaCity. Preventive Brake Assist is also optionally available for the range of the Mercedes‑Benz Conecto city buses.
Sideguard Assist: the first ever turning assist system for city buses and touring coaches
Turning right in city traffic is among the most unpleasant tasks for drivers, as they are required to heed traffic lights and signs ahead while simultaneously observing oncoming and crossing traffic and keeping an eye on pedestrians and bike riders at the side. In addition, the traffic situation can change in a matter of seconds. With this in mind, Mercedes‑Benz and Setra are now the first bus and coach brands to offer the turn-off assist system Sideguard Assist with pedestrian detection. Mercedes‑Benz offers it for the city bus Citaro in all versions including the large-capacity bus CapaCity and high-deck touring coach Tourismo, Setra for its touring coaches of the ComfortClass 500 and TopClass 500 as well as for the Setra S 531 DT double-decker bus.
The goal is to continuous information, warnings when needed
Sideguard Assist operates in several stages: It first of all informs the driver when a relevant object is located in the warning zone. In a second stage, the driver receives a warning if he initiates or continues an action and a danger of a collision arises.
The centrepiece is a radar sensor system with two short-range radar sensors on the entrance side. The system covers the entire length of the bus, complemented by two stripes to the front and rear of about 2 metres each. These zones are expanded above a speed of 36 km/h.
If there is a moving object in the monitored zone, the driver is given a visual warning. On the touring coaches, an LED in the shape of a yellow triangle lights up at the driver's eye level in the side mirror on the co-driver's side. On the Citaro, it is integrated into the A0-pillar on the door side. The lamp draws the driver's attention intuitively towards the situation alongside the vehicle. If the sensors detect the risk of a collision, an additional visual warning is given: the LED flashes brightly red several times. After two seconds, it remains permanently illuminated in red. In addition, there is a vibration warning in the driver's seat. A visual and tactile warning also occurs if the sensors additionally detect a stationary obstacle, such as a traffic light or a bollard, in the bus's turning curve when turning.
The driver retains full responsibility and remains in control of the situation. The driver is able to take any course of action which appears appropriate.
All assistance systems in all Mercedes-Benz vehicles work within system limits at all times to their full capacity. The driver retains full responsibility with respect to the road and traffic conditions.
World premiere: the revolutionary new Mercedes-Benz eCitaro
- Citaro: from low-emission bus to zero-emission bus
- The eCitaro gets a tailor-made exclusive exterior
- Flexible charging technology: plug-in charging as standard, optional pantograph
- Thermal management: new approaches for heating and climate control
- Practical range also under difficult conditions
- The future is electric: kick-off for an innovation initiative
It emits zero local emissions and runs almost silently. It combines the thousandfold proven platform of the world's best-selling Mercedes-Benz city bus with new technological solutions. The all-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro takes electric mobility using city buses to a new level altogether. The new eCitaro offers an impressive and unprecedented standard in energy efficiency – by using innovative components available for the first time with the launch of the eCitaro. Its performance enables the eCitaro to cover a large part of the requirements of the transport operators right from the start. In addition, it is already ready for the battery technology of the near future. Its design fuses the basic shape of the Citaro with elements of the Mercedes‑Benz Future Bus into a distinct appearance. It is also more than just a city bus: Mercedes-Benz takes a holistic view of electric mobility, embedding the eCitaro firmly in its integrated eMobility system.
Urbanisation demands low-emission and locally emission-free mobility
Be it a metropolis, a large city or a small town, the challenges and problems are similar: A growing population means a growing need for mobility, both for work and recreational purposes. One possible solution in this respect is a well-developed local public transport infrastructure, with low-emission and locally emission-free buses. The new all-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro is an important element in this regard, running as it does both locally entirely emission-free and almost silently.
Citaro: from low-emission bus to zero-emission bus
The platform of the new Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro is the Citaro, the world's best-selling Mercedes‑Benz city bus with more than 50 000 units sold. With its wide range of low-emission and now also locally emission-free city buses, it has the right answers to questions about environmentally friendly local public transport. The all-electric eCitaro is now taking the next step from low-emission bus to locally emission-free bus.
The eCitaro gets a tailor-made exclusive exterior
The new eCitaro is also a true Citaro – but a very special one. That is because the exceptional characteristics of the new Mercedes‑ Benz eCitaro correspond to its equally exceptional design. It is based on the familiar looks of the Citaro, but takes up elements from the design idiom of the revolutionary Mercedes‑Benz Future Bus concept vehicle.
This is particularly evident in the face of the eCitaro. The focal point is the Mercedes star. Trim elements radiate to the left and right from the star. The three-dimensional elements are made of a transparent material and are chromed on the back by means of vapour deposition. This results in attractive lighting effects from different angles and in changing sunlight. The model logotype with a blue "e" discreetly and at the same time conspicuously points to the all-electric powertrain technology.
The bumper and the three-dimensional A0‑pillars typical of the model frame the face of the eCitaro. Another feature of the city bus is its curved windscreen. It elegantly sweeps up to the roof and integrates the destination display. Visually, the windscreen smoothly transitions into the roof with dark bars on the left and right. At its middle, the roof sports an "island" in vehicle colour that almost seems to float, likewise one of the design elements of the Future Bus.
The roof-mounted equipment of the eCitaro is hidden behind an elegant roof-edge ridge made from a multi-piece extruded aluminium section. The glossy black lower segment extends the generous glazing of the city bus. The upper segment is painted in vehicle colour. These optical tricks lend the eCitaro perfect proportions.
The rear corner posts end at the top in a pronounced curvature in the roof-edge ridge. Their elegant shape as well as the likewise stylised island as covering for the roof-mounted equipment and the bars that connect rear window and roof take the heft off the high superstructure.
A fusion of elegant and at the same time practical design
Overall, the eCitaro sports a solid appearance with clearly drawn contours and no showmanship whatsoever. At the same time, the new eCitaro is a true practical bus. The eCitaro adopts the structure of the current model unchanged, a crucial aspect for a preferably simple repair of accident damage, for example. The curved windscreen comes from the Citaro Ü and is thus a common spare part. The roof-edge ridge at the sides not only has a two-piece design, but is also segmented.
The interior: new coffered ceiling with high-tech lighting
In the passenger compartment, the eCitaro rings in a general update of the interior of the entire Citaro family of models. A stand-out feature in the design interior is the coffered ceiling above the centre aisle and the sweeping roof-edge flaps. They hide a new air circulation system with textile ducts in place of the current plastic air ducts. They are even easier and simpler to install.
Particularly noteworthy are the technology modules as connectors between the individual elements of the coffered ceiling. They combine the interior lights and the loudspeakers in one element. With this step, the interior lights are switched to LED as standard. The lighting is ingenious: The light of the LED lamps is refracted in a way to make the technology modules appear to the observer as one homogeneous light panel.
Also new is the black trim on the sills and window posts. As a result, the window posts stand out less and the appearance of the side walls is calmed.
Proven electric axle, new modular battery concept
The powertrain of the new eCitaro is based on the proven and optimised electric portal axle ZF AVE 130 with electric motors at the wheel hubs. The peak output of the motors is 2 x 125 kW, while torque is 2 x 485 Nm. It is an inherent feature of such motors that this is fully available right from the start, ensuring appropriate dynamic performance even with a full complement of passengers.
Lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of up to about 243 kWh provide the power. The batteries are split between up to ten modules, each supplying around 25 kWh. In addition to two battery modules on the vehicle roof, the standard equipment includes four battery modules in the rear of the bus. Depending upon customer requirements, another two or four battery modules are mounted on the roof of the eCitaro.
Full the full complement of batteries, the eCitaro in standard specification weighs about 13.44 tonnes. In conjunction with a gross vehicle weight rating of 19.5 tonnes, this corresponds to a payload of more than six tonnes or around 88 passengers – in line with what is needed in practice even during rush hour.
Flexible charging technology: charging at the depot as standard, optional pantograph
The eCitaro's charging technology also allows it to adjust to the individual wishes and requirements of the transport operators. For the start of series production, plug-in charging is intended. To this end, the city bus features a socket for a Combo 2 connector above the right front wheel arch as standard.
If opportunity charging is required to extend the range, the eCitaro can optionally be charged via a roof-mounted pantograph. This option will be gradually phased-in once series production has started. There will be two possible variants: in phase 1, an integral pantograph on the roof; in phase 2, charging rails on the roof that will allow charging via a stationary pantograph of a charging station.
Thermal management: new approaches for heating and climate control
However, the battery capacity alone provides little indication of the actual performance capability and, above all, the range of an all-electric city bus - the true measure is that of energy consumption. In the case of a city bus, this is impacted significantly by climatic conditions and consequently by the need to cool and, above all, to heat the interior.
At an outside temperature of minus ten degrees Celsius, the energy consumption of a city bus doubles compared to runs where no heating is required. The engineers have therefore put some thought into the issue of thermal management. Compared with the current Citaro with combustion engine, the energy requirement for heating, ventilation and climate control has fallen by about 40 percent. This exceptional energy efficiency lays the foundation for the eCitaro's practical operating range even under unfavourable conditions. This is accomplished with the use of innovative components that only reached market readiness with the launch of the eCitaro.
Heating featuring heat pump, networking of components
Firstly, Mercedes-Benz cools the batteries to keep them at the ideal temperature, which results in maximum charging capacity, performance, and service life. At extreme hot outside temperatures, the climate control system of passenger compartment boosts the cooling of the batteries.
The passenger compartment of the eCitaro is heated in an energy-efficient manner by a heat pump. An even temperature distribution is ensured by use of the familiar sidewall fan heaters. The conventional heater at the front features a double heat exchanger.
All components that give off heat are linked together, so keeping the amount of energy required for their cooling to a minimum. Since the human body likewise gives off heat, the heating on a bus carrying a full complement of passengers can be turned down earlier. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz varies the output of the heating and climate control systems according to the number of passengers.
During the colder months, the roof-mounted air conditioning system is used in addition as a heat pump, so ensuring effective and efficient climate control for the passenger compartment. The use of CO2 as a coolant brings further benefits. Its very efficient use of the heat pump, even at very low temperatures, is impressive.
An added bonus: the interior can be conditioned up to and even beyond the desired temperature while the batteries are still being charged at the depot. The bus will therefore have been heated or cooled to reflect the season before it sets off.
High efficiency: practical range under difficult conditions
Range specifications of all-electric city bus are often hard to compare. Mercedes-Benz prefers to consider a "worst-case scenario", taking its direction from the challenging Standardised On-Road Test Cycle SORT2 and even allows for the energy demand of the auxiliary consumers, making it more difficult. According to this, the Citaro achieves an operating range of around 150 kilometres in summer. As a result, the eCitaro already covers about one third of all routes without opportunity charging today. Under ideal conditions, the eCitaro even drives around 250 kilometres without opportunity charging.
Driver's area: familiar cockpit, power metre instead of rev counter
Benefit for the driver of the eCitaro: Cockpit and control concept are largely unchanged. The only difference is a power metre that replaces the rev counter. It displays the current power demand and/or energy recovery rate. The driver also receives information about the state of charge of the batteries. He can access the range, available power and the charging indicator on the central display.
In general, the performance is optimised for maximum efficiency, without the driver having to deal with major differences from the Citaro with combustion engine. For example, in the basic setting, the bus coasts in an energy-efficient manner when the driver takes his foot off the accelerator pedal, it "sails". Alternatively, the driver can set a basic deceleration rate – similar to the engine braking torque or the retarder effect of a diesel bus – as the energy recovery rate by means of a multi-stage electric brake lever.
Start of series production still by the end of 2018, initial orders already received
The countdown for the new city bus bearing the three-pointed star is running at full steam: Following the world premiere for the public at the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, deliveries of the first customer vehicles will start still this year.
The future is electric: kick-off for an innovation initiative
The new Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro of the year 2018 is the kick-off for an innovation initiative with a clear strategy aimed at the swift and above all practical electrification of public transit with buses in cities and population centres. The eCitaro will be able to replace city buses powered by a combustion engine nearly completely in just a few years.
Since the development of battery technology is progressing at a rapid pace, the eCitaro is already designed to be transitioned to the future battery technology. This applies to the lithium-ion batteries currently in use, for example. Their next generation with larger capacity and consequently increased range will be made available to the customers of the eCitaro in two years as things stand today. With a total capacity of up to 330 kWh, the eCitaro will then cover about 50 percent of all operations. This battery capacity will also make the use of this technology for an eCitaro G articulated bus feasible.
In parallel to this development, another step is already preordained during that same period, the optional use of future lithium-polymer batteries, also referred to as solid-state batteries. They are characterised by an especially long service life and high energy density. With a rated battery capacity of about 400 kWh in the solo bus and even more in the articulated bus, the eCitaro will then meet about 70 percent of all requirements without opportunity charging. The characteristics of solid-state batteries differ significantly from NMC batteries: They have a different shape, are larger and not suitable for quick-charging. As a result, city buses equipped with them cover different operational profiles. For this reason, the eCitaro will in future be offered with a choice of NMC or solid-state batteries.
Subsequently, the range of the eCitaro will be increased yet again by a range extender in the form of a fuel cell that generates electricity. It will be designed to allow the eCitaro to fulfil nearly 100 percent of all requirements on city buses. This technology eliminates the need for opportunity charging and the complex infrastructure required for it in almost all cases – the eCitaro will be able to replace city buses with combustion engine virtually one to one.

Mercedes-Benz minibuses: new generation based on the new Sprinter, top-of-the-range model Sprinter City 75 with unrivalled technology
- Advantage Sprinter: full connectivity and common-part strategy
- Sprinter City 75: new top-of-the-range model with unrivalled technology
- Sprinter Transfer: all-rounder among minibuses
- Sprinter Mobility: specialist for passengers with reduced mobility
The new Mercedes‑Benz Sprinter forms the basis for a totally new generation of the successful minibuses bearing the three-pointed star. As before, they comprise the model series Sprinter City, Sprinter Transfer, Sprinter Mobility and Sprinter Travel. The names stand unchanged for operations in line service, as a versatile shuttle bus, for transport of passengers with limited mobility, and for tourist transport. The Sprinter City 75 with exclusive technology plays a prominent role. All models are based on the Sprinter with rear-wheel drive or optionally all-wheel drive.
New names, staggered start-up
The model names of the minibuses change with the new generation: As before, the first digit is based on the length variant of the base vehicle, but the second digit now indicates its weight category. The model start-up conforms to the availability of the Sprinter: It begins in 2018 with the Sprinter Transfer 23 and 35, the Sprinter Mobility 23 as well as the entirely newly developed Sprinter City 75. The rest of the models of these series will follow in 2019, as will all models of the Sprinter Travel. After the model changeover is complete, the product range will comprise more than 20 left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive models in autumn of 2019.
Advantage Sprinter: full connectivity and common-part strategy
The minibuses benefit from the advantages of the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. That starts with the flowing lines of the design, comprises the updated components of engine and chassis, and ultimately culminates in the completely new cockpit. In addition to its ergonomics, it is compelling with its high variability. The broad spectrum even includes a leather multifunction steering wheel, a colour display between the clearly arranged instruments, as well as a high-resolution display in the area of the centre console, with a choice of 7.0 or 10.25-inch screens including the Mercedes‑Benz User Experience MBUX multimedia system. In addition, there are numerous assistance systems from the standard-fit Crosswind Assist to Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Brake Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist.
Like the Sprinter, the minibuses are fully networked. They come with the connectivity module of the Sprinter for fleet management as standard. However, optionally they can also be integrated into the Omniplus On fleet management system. The minibuses benefit not least from a common-part strategy shared with Mercedes‑Benz Vans: be it the air suspension (exception: Sprinter City 75) or the climate control system for the passenger compartment with 7 kW or 11 kW output – these and other components are identical on minibuses and platform vehicles.
Sprinter City 75: new top-of-the-range model with unrivalled technology
The new Mercedes‑Benz Sprinter City 75 is the marquee of the minibuses from Mercedes‑Benz for line service. The line-service bus with a length of 8.5 metres offers room for up to 38 passengers. Like its predecessor, the Sprinter 75 has a discrete skeleton body. The minibus adopts the Sprinter's body width of just 2020 mm and consequently also moves nimbly through narrow alleys in historic city centres or densely built-up suburbs. Its bodywork conceals unrivalled technology.
Distinct styling, sidewalls with asymmetrical design
A typical feature of the Sprinter is the combination of a clearly defined face with precisely drawn headlamps and soft and flowing shapes. The body of the Sprinter City 75 skilfully takes up these fundamental design traits. Similar to the predecessor generation, the panoramic windscreen rises up very high and integrates the destination display.
The two sidewalls have an asymmetrical design. On the driver's side, the cab and the body fuse into a single unit. The glazing of the body has a distinctive arrow shape at the front. It is different on the entrance side: The rising window railing aft of the A‑pillar drops down to the low beltline. At the rear, the Sprinter City 75 terminates in a distinct bus rear end. The distinct design of the largest minibus is copyrighted.
Passenger compartment: low entrance, flexible low-floor platform
Passengers enter the passenger compartment of the Sprinter City 75 through a double-wing electrically operated out-swinging door aft of the front axle. Like the single-wing rear door, it is powered by the 12 volt technology of the Sprinter. Because the step height in driving position is just 270 mm, the minibus does not need a complex kneeling function.
Spacious low-floor zone with variable use
The passenger compartment has a low-entry design. The low-floor zone is highly variable. It offers room for up to five folding seats on the driver's side and two more on the door side, alternatively for a wheelchair and/or pram. If the seats are not in use, the minibus offers standing room for up to 26 passengers. Seating with quick-swap system with up to three double seats on the driver's side is also possible.
A low step in front of the rear axle leads to the raised seating area in the rear. Eleven more seats are arranged there. The City Star Sprinter seats are available in different versions from plastic seat shells to fully cushioned seats.
A hallmark feature of the Sprinter City 75 is its extensive and well-thought-out equipment. For example, the bus ceiling with its air ducts on both sides integrates LED lights. The developers paid great attention to effective heating and climate control. Drivers benefit from a Tempmatic semi-automatic climate control system and an electric hot-air auxiliary heater. The temperature in the passenger compartment is regulated by a roof-mounted climate control system with an output of 11 kW. In addition, by a heat exchanger with blowers in the entrance area and rear end, as well as by a convection heating system. The heating and blower output was increased even further compared with the predecessor model. In addition, there is a hot-water auxiliary heater with pre-heating function.
Cockpit with great variety of variants and bus-specific equipment
The driver's workplace in the Sprinter City 75 benefits from the redesigned state-of-the-art cockpit of the platform vehicle. An additional panel stands out above the centre console. It clusters the bus-specific controls with up to 14 switches and 12 annunciator lights in a clearly arranged layout. A new feature is an electrically operated roller sun shade for the panoramic windscreen.
To the right of the driver's workplace is space for the ticket-counter unit. The basic variant comes from the predecessor model. The new design version tidily integrates the fire extinguisher and offers two DIN slots for additional devices. On the inside are several consoles intended to accommodate electronic and electrical devices.
Discreet integral skeleton body, exclusive high-load rear axle
Like the design, the technical concept of the Sprinter City 75 is completely new. Its basis is the chassis of the Mercedes‑Benz Sprinter, however, only to the B‑pillar. Aft of the B-pillar is a discreet self-supporting integral minibus skeleton body. The new city bus is characterised by a wheelbase of 5095 mm. It thus surpasses the longest wheelbase of the new Mercedes‑Benz Sprinter by 770 mm. The gross vehicle weight rating of the two-axle vehicle is 6.8 t and offers large reserves.
The basis of the high gross vehicle weight rating is a high-load rear axle with air suspension developed exclusively for the Mercedes‑Benz minibuses. The dual-tyre component has an axle-load rating of 5.0 t. Prerequisite for the tremendous load-bearing capacity are 17.5‑inch wheels with tyres of size 215/75 R 17.5. A likewise newly developed minibus frequent-stop brake optionally does duty right in front of the rear axle. The standard equipment includes a Telma retarder with a braking power of 350 Nm as a wear-free auxiliary brake. It is upstream of the foot pedal.
The new Sprinter City 75 captivates with a host of assistance systems that further elevate the level of safety. Examples are the standard-fit Electronic Stability Program ESP or Crosswind Assist. Optional systems such as Active Brake Assist or Active Distance Assist Distronic support the driver.
Sprinter Transfer: all-rounder among minibuses
The versatile Sprinter Transfer comes to the starting line with a comprehensive line-up. Its four models range from the Sprinter Transfer 23 with a length of 5.9 metres and the Sprinter Transfer 35 (7.0 m) to the Sprinter Transfer 45 (7.4 m) and the Sprinter Transfer 55 with a length of 7.7 metres with rear-end extension and bus rear end. As a result, it covers a spectrum from 3.55 t to 5.5 t gross weight and offers room for 12 to 22 passengers. In addition to the passenger entrance through the sliding door, three door variants level with the co-driver's door are available to choose from, always in conjunction with a deepened and widened entrance. This eliminates the need for the otherwise customary electrically extending step at the entrance.
The Sprinter Transfer's variety of equipment matches its wide range of operations. One example is the interior ceiling: Depending on the model, it is available as a genuine part from the Mercedes‑B enz Sprinter, as a genuine interior ceiling with luggage racks and as a touring coach ceiling.
The focus at the start of the model changeover is on the Sprinter Transfer 35. The minibus with a length of 6.97 metres is based on the original body of the Sprinter with high roof and has a passenger capacity of 15+1 as standard. Optionally, 18+1 and even 19+1 passengers are possible. The gross vehicle weight rating is 5.0 t to 5.5 t.
The Sprinter Transfer adopts the inter-city seats introduced just last year. The seats are firmly bolted to a floor track and the sidewall. Sidewalls, window posts and inside door panels are trimmed with black plastic.
There also is the especially compact Sprinter Transfer 23 with room for 13+1 passengers. The minibus is just 5.9 metres long and only available as a right-hand-drive vehicle. The Sprinter Transfer 45 and Sprinter Transfer 55 models will follow over the course of 2019.
Sprinter Mobility: specialist for passengers with reduced mobility
The Sprinter Mobility model series focuses on two models. The compact Sprinter Mobility 23 with a length of just 5.9 metres and a gross vehicle weight rating of just 3.5 t. It can be driven with a Class C driving licence and has room for up to eight passengers, a maximum of four wheelchair bays or a mix thereof.
The passenger compartment is accessed over a step at the sliding door or a ramp at the rear end. The basis of the passenger compartment is an aluminium floor system with six integrated airline tracks for the fast and unproblematic anchorage of wheelchairs.
The passenger seats are anchored with a quick-change system, giving the Sprinter Mobility the appropriate operational flexibility. The passenger seats feature an integrated two-point or three-point seat belt. A height-adjustable three-point belt is part of the standard equipment of the wheelchair bays.
The larger Sprinter Mobility 45 with a gross vehicle weight rating of 5.0 t and room for up to 19 passengers or six wheelchair bays deserves special attention. The large number of wheelchair bays is the result of a raised floor. The associated covering of the wheel housings creates a level surface in the passenger compartment. Eight airline tracks are embedded into the floor for flexible anchoring of different wheelchairs. Another special feature of the Sprinter Mobility 45: it is optionally fitted with the touring coach ceiling.
The Sprinter Mobility uses a new lightweight linear wheelchair lift. With a load-bearing capacity of 350 kg, it weighs just 100 kg. Part of the standard specification of the Mobility 23 is a two-piece rear ramp with a length of 2.4 metres and a weight of 30 kg.
IAA premiere: Mercedes-Benz Tourismo RHD - safe, economical, comfortable, functional
- Safety: premiere of new assistance systems in high-deckers
- Cost effectiveness: minimum costs, maximum performance
- Comfort: bright interior, new upholstery, individual equipment
- Functionality: four models, two cockpits, a high-decker made to measure
The specifications for the new high-deck touring coach from Mercedes-Benz were ambitious: maximum cost effectiveness, safety, functionality and comfort. The result is the new Tourismo RHD – a touring coach with features that impress operators, passengers and drivers alike. Its range of operations includes long-distance regular-service routes and long-distance tourist travel as well as shuttle services, excursion travel and occasional use on inter-city routes. All of which add up to identify the new Tourismo RHD as the new star in the business segment, which is how Mercedes-Benz defines this particularly multi-faceted area of the bus and coach sector.
Safety: Premiere of new assistance systems in high-deckers
Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA) emergency braking system, Sideguard Assist, Stop/Start Assist for use in stop-and-go traffic and the Attention Assist (AtAs) drowsiness detection system – four examples among many of the highly advanced safety technology features of the new Tourismo RHD. Its extensive range of safety features can be individually configured to suit the proposed area of use. Even the standard package of safety technology in the new high-deck touring coach is exemplary, and unsurpassed when it comes to the maximum level of equipment possible – no bus or coach in this category is safer.
Cost effectiveness: minimum costs, maximum performance
For companies, maximum cost effectiveness primarily means minimal costs. The new Tourismo RHD meets this criterion, thanks to even further reduced fuel consumption.
The powertrain configuration of the Tourismo RHD is based on the latest generation of the Mercedes-Benz OM 470 inline six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 10.7 l and efficiency package. A new top-of-the-range engine with 335 kW (456 hp) combines high driving dynamics with low fuel consumption. Also new in the Tourismo RHD is the optional compact inline six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz OM 936 engine with a displacement of 7.7 l and an output of 260 kW (354 hp). It combines low fuel consumption with low weight, resulting in an increased payload and even greater cost effectiveness. There are five output levels in all to choose from.
Comfort: bright interior, new upholstery, individual equipment
The new Tourismo RHD offers its passengers a true sense of well-being. Passengers are made to feel welcome on board by the convenient, ergonomic entry steps and the airy, pleasingly-designed vehicle interior. A further highlight is the new Softline upholstery: the attractive diamond-shaped pattern on the seat and backrest calls to mind luxury-class Mercedes saloons.
The redesigned service sets with selectable decorative frame are eye-catchers. The new climate control increases travel comfort for the passengers: its two-zone control with fully automatic adjustment and two separate circuits each for the heating and climate control respectively ensure a uniform temperature profile throughout the vehicle.
Functionality: four models, two cockpits, a high-decker made to measure
For a company, a high-deck touring coach is an investment; for drivers, it is their place of work. Both of them have extremely high expectations in terms of functionality. The new Tourismo RHD lives up to this expectation thanks to its modular system. With four models in three different lengths from 12.3 m to 14.0 m and two or three axles, the high-decker model covers virtually all requirements. For the first time, all models are available with both left or right-hand drive.
Another special feature of the new Tourismo is the opportunity to choose between two cockpits on all left-hand-drive models: companies can select either the functional variant "Cockpit Basic Plus" or the even more comfortable "Cockpit Comfort Plus".

IAA premiere: the fascinating Setra S 531 DT double-decker bus
- Design: modern and surprisingly distinct appearance
- Prime example of aerodynamic and fuel efficiency
- Variability: the new Setra is a bus to meet all needs
- Comfort: bright interior, convenient stairs, innovative wash room
- Safety: Active Brake Assist 4, Sideguard Assist
Maximum efficiency and variability, supreme comfort and the ultimate in safety: The Setra S 531 DT double-decker bus of the TopClass again sets standards in its class and now celebrates its premiere at the IAA. With superlative aerodynamics, this impressive touring coach is all set to establish new fuel efficiency records in its segment. With its variable lower deck, it covers the entire scope of applications in touring and line service. The interior boasts an impressive standard of comfort. Finally, the new assistance systems Active Brake Assist 4 and Sideguard Assist enhance the already high safety level even further. All of this is cloaked in a fascinating design with its own distinct stamp.
Design: modern and surprisingly distinct appearance
The double-decker bus belongs to the Setra TopClass. Due to its wide range of applications and variety, it is nevertheless in a class of its own. This is documented by its modern and distinct appearance. The Setra's face with its dark front panel and silver brand lettering clearly originates from the TopClass. On the sidewall, the designers have adapted the brand's hallmark "La Linea" aluminium strip, now running horizontally along the roof edge. The extensive glazing is highlighted by a counter-sweep at the level of the rear stairs, the metal skin of the upper deck floats on the glazing like an island.
The ventilation grilles of the engine in the rear end are interconnected. Above these, the black grille of the integrated TopAir air conditioning system makes its mark. The chrome-plated logo plaque featuring the brand logotype from the TopClass catches the eye under the rear window – a perfect finishing touch for a spectacular bus.
Prime example of aerodynamic and fuel efficiency
Form and function go hand in hand on the new double-decker bus. It is a prime example of aerodynamic.efficiency With a drag coefficient of Cd = 0.35, it sets a new benchmark in its segment and thereby lays the foundation for maximum fuel efficiency: depending on its operations, the Setra S 531 DT is about seven to ten percent more fuel-efficient than its already economical predecessor. At the same time, the aerodynamic fine-tuning minimises wind noises, clear added comfort for passengers and driver.
The two windscreens are seamlessly joined and feature a more prominent curve. The air is better able to flow around large edge radii. A potentially required destination display is mounted behind the lower windscreen. Virtually no gaps remain between the body and the flush-closing doors and the driver's window. The panelling of the underbody in the front-end assembly is also effective. The leaf-shaped arms of the side mirrors have also been aerodynamically optimised. The aero windscreen wiper system plays a major role in reducing the vehicle's aerodynamic drag. The Setra's newly designed rear end has also been developed with due regard to aerodynamic aspects.
The double-decker bus is furthermore lowered imperceptibly by 20 mm from a speed of 95 km/h. In addition to the comprehensive fine-tuning work on the body, the developers reduced the cross-section and thus the aerodynamic drag in this way.
Variability: the new Setra is a bus to meet all needs
Holiday travels, long-distance regular-service routes, stylish bistro buses, inter-city lines – the new Setra covers all conceivable types of use for a bus on this scale. The lower deck suitable for various purposes provides the basis for this, together with the scope for individual appointments and seating characteristic of the brand. Thanks to a completely new design, the platform on the bottom deck on the right as seen in the direction of travel can be omitted if the customer so desires. This results in new options: wheelchair bays, installations for bistro buses, a demountable platform with pram area for inter-city lines or, with platform, the classic seating for touring purposes.
The variety is also manifest in the cockpit: customers can choose between the elegantly functional cockpit from the Setra ComfortClass and the luxurious cockpit from the TopClass.
Comfort: bright interior, convenient stairs, innovative wash room
With plenty of light and a modern design, the interior of the new Setra offers a generous sense of space. A crucial component is the comfortable seating offering many choices.
Like its predecessor, the new double-decker bus offers two variants for the two stairways. While the rear stairs are always located aft of door two, operators are free to choose the position of the front stairs. A popular choice in tourist transport is to have the stairs positioned on the left behind the driver, as seen in the direction of travel. For use on long-distance scheduled services, operators prefer the stairs to be positioned in the direct vicinity of the front entrance, on the right as seen in the direction of travel, on account of the faster passenger flow. Glazed on the outside, the stairs to the upper deck on the inside feature panelling made of translucent acrylic plastic. Evenly spaced two-tone steps with individual lighting, landings and continuous handrails give passengers a sense of safety when going up and down the stairs.
The wash room in a totally new design is also worthy of note. Its installations are arranged diagonally, making maximum use of the available space. In addition, there is the significantly increased standing headroom.
On the upper deck, the cockpit for the first-row passengers in the new Setra TopClass S 531 DT has been completely redesigned. Like the cockpit on the lower deck, its counterpart on the upper deck also sports a two-tone colour scheme.
The unparalleled economic efficiency of the double-decker bus
The new double-decker bus is all set to begin its working life with a perfectly tuned and proven powertrain: an OM 471 engine rated at 375 kW (510 hp), a fully automated GO 250-8 PowerShift bus transmission, and an RO 440 bus drive axle.
Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) and Eco Driver Feedback (EDF) are optionally available to support the driver with individual feedback on their personal driving style.
Safety: Active Brake Assist 4, Sideguard Assist
As standard, the double-decker bus is equipped with LED headlamps and the Active Brake Assist 4 braking assistance system. In addition to the previously available functions – emergency stop in response to stationary objects and obstacles moving ahead of the vehicle – it now also incorporates pedestrian detection with automatic braking response. The optional Sideguard Assist uses radar sensors to monitor the lane to the right of the bus. It warns of pedestrians, cyclists or stationary obstacles when turning right.
Should an accident nevertheless occur, driver and passengers benefit from the highest possible standard of passive safety. As a result, the S 531 DT voluntarily passed the pendulum impact test modelled after ECE‑R‑29. Safety is number one on the list of priorities, a fact also underscored by the fire extinguishing system fitted as standard.

More than a city bus: the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro as part of the integrated eMobility system
- The challenge of electric mobility: rethinking city bus transport
- eMobility Consulting: detailed and practical advice
- The individual Omniplus eMobility service concept
- Model workshop Dortmund: exemplary facilities and training
The new all-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro is more than just a city bus: It is part of Daimler Buses' integrated eMobility system. It encompasses the pre-purchase expert advisory services of the eMobility Consulting Team. Omniplus Service offers tailor-made service concepts for electric mobility, right through to services provided in the customer's own workshop.
The challenge of electric mobility: rethinking city bus travel
Electric mobility is a challenge, which is something experienced by private car buyers and even much more so by transport operators, who are working with an established and fine mesh of route networks, schedules, tours and duty rosters. In an ideal world, they would like to see a straightforward 1:1 replacement of city buses with combustion engine by all-electric buses. This mandates meticulous preparation – electric mobility means rethinking the way buses are used for urban mobility.
eMobility Consulting: detailed and practical advice
This is where eMobility Consulting comes in. Staff members demonstrate the performance capability of the eCitaro to transport operators and sound out their ideas and expectations. In the next step, each route is individually analysed, recording a plethora of data that ranges from the length of the route to passenger numbers and average speed. Even the outside temperatures play a role: Due to the increased energy consumption for heating and climate control, they have significant impact on the range of electric city buses. A simulation programme developed in-house then calculates the energy needs.
The experts evaluate the individual scenarios and link them to one another. A series of different variants are the outcome, from the standard data acquisition with a calculation of range to the issue of charge management and even the organisation of the bus depot. The experts' detailed knowledge of their own company's buses, their close contacts to the engineers in Development and their professional relationship, based on trust, with the transport operators prove advantageous here – and result in a unique level of expertise relating to buses as a transport system.
At the end of all this, the experts are able to provide precise recommendations and calculations. They take into account the charging infrastructure, the energy consumption, the delivery rate of the power supply at the depot, the charge management system, and the operational integration of the eCitaro. In cases where daily mileages are high, they also comprise charging at the depot as an alternative to external charging stations, because the latter are expensive and may also be subject to longer approval procedures. In addition, transport operators receive basic information about employee training, workshop equipment and facilities as well as the right servicing concept already in advance.
The individual Omniplus eMobility service concept
Service, maintenance and repair are also significantly different with electric mobility. Tasks related to combustion engines, emission control systems and automatic transmissions are eliminated; the focus now is on high-voltage technology. It requires different operational processes.
The 'Omniplus' service brand of Daimler Buses has therefore prepared a special eMobility service concept. Transport operators can select appropriate modules from within this to suit their individual needs. Options range from the classic supervision of the customer's workshop through to workshop services allied to service contracts, completed in Daimler-based competence centres and, at the top end of the scale, BusDepot Management: In this case, Omniplus employees undertake a defined scope of work, which may extend to full all-round service management of the vehicles, directly at the customer's workshop.
Omniplus has developed tailor-made service contracts for the eCitaro. The eBasic service contract includes repairs to the high-voltage system and high-voltage battery, operating fluids except the battery charge as well as all maintenance of the overall vehicle according to manufacturer specification. The ePremium service contract in addition comprises repairs to the overall vehicle including maintenance and wear as well as vehicle-related expenses in case of a breakdown including any potential 24h Service surcharges when work is performed outside normal business hours. It thus offers an all-around worry-free package for switching to an electric bus fleet.
Model workshop Dortmund: exemplary facilities and training
Transport operators can learn about equipping a workshop for electric buses in the exemplary equipped Omniplus model workshop at the training centre in Dortmund. Companies can also learn there about occupational health and safety regulations and other topics related to high-voltage technology.
Dortmund is far more than a demonstration workshop - it is home to intensive qualification and training, because only properly prepared employees are permitted to enter a workshop with electric vehicles, let alone work with high-voltage technology. The Omniplus service brand has developed a complete qualification concept, from raising awareness about high voltage and training of specialists to preparing trainers. As part of the introduction of the all-electric Citaro, the concept is being expanded Europe-wide.

Omniplus On: four pillars for maximum vehicle availability, fleet management, and buying parts
Omniplus On rests on four pillars:
- "Omniplus On advance“ ensures maximum fleet availability for bus operators, for example, with the revolutionary service Omniplus Uptime for continuously monitoring the relevant vehicle systems in real time
- "Omniplus On monitor“ combines the telematics services for efficient fleet management
- "Omniplus On drive“ supports the driver, for example, in their required daily pre-departure check
- "Omniplus On commerce“ gives bus operators the possibility to buy, for example parts, quickly and tailored to their needs around the clock in the Omniplus eShop
Customers of the current model variants of the Mercedes‑Benz Citaro, Conecto and CapaCity, the current Mercedes‑Benz Tourismo as well as all Setra touring coaches of the ComfortClass 500 and TopClass 500 model series benefit from Omniplus On. As of this year, all of these buses and coaches will be equipped with the "Bus Data Center" telematics box as standard. It serves as the transfer unit for the host of data.
Omniplus On advance: Omniplus Uptime for maximum availability
A bus can only earn money when it's in use. This is ensured by the revolutionary service Omniplus Uptime, which thinks ahead. Omniplus demonstrates new possibilities of connectivity with the Uptime service. Omniplus Uptime creates transparency about the technical condition of the fleet, creates planning certainty, prevents breakdowns and leads to a significant overall improvement in vehicle availability.
Omniplus Uptime continuously monitors the status of vehicle systems in real time. This includes all the technical features equipped with sensors whose information is available in the data bus system. All in all, Omniplus Uptime monitors around 30 components and functions.
The data are continuously analysed and interpreted on a Daimler server. If the need for repairs or maintenance becomes apparent, a message is automatically sent to the bus operator, and depending on urgency, also to the authorised service outlet. This allows bundling required repairs with the maintenance.
If there is a risk that a vehicle might break down due to a serious technical malfunction, the customer receives a call from the Omniplus 24h Service within minutes and is notified via the Omniplus On portal. This already includes concrete and qualified recommended actions. If needed, Omniplus finds a suitable workshop and organises the repair. In this way, an unplanned stop can be prevented or reduced to a minimum.
Omniplus Uptime also reveals inattentiveness, e.g. failure to perform a particulate filter regeneration or a constantly inadequate tyre pressure. This also results in recommendations for action.
Omniplus On monitor: telematics services for efficient fleet management
You achieve maximum efficiency if you have control of your fleet in every detail. Telematics is an indispensable aid in this regard. Fuel consumption and the analysis of operating data of individual buses or the entire fleet, driver card download – these and more are the professional tools for it.
Individual services provide an overview of the fleet
Individual services already provide operators with a great deal of useful information, ensuring transparent fleet operations. For example, these services indicate the fuel saving potential of the bus fleet using current fuel consumption figures and driving styles, the mileage of the bus fleet and the current locations of the buses. The information can be viewed in the Omniplus On portal, both on the desktop as well as the mobile version. This means that bus operators also have the basic data for their fleet available outside the workplace.
Comprehensive telematics services for bus operators from July 2019
To provide bus customers with a central point of contact for digital services, Omniplus On also replaces the numerous telematics services of Fleetboard with a new structure.
In addition to all the information about their bus fleet that customers previously received via Fleetboard services, they will in future get even more innovative services via Omniplus ON monitor, for example, the functionalities of Geofence geographic monitoring, SafetyScore, route planner, the management of checklists and operational information about the eCitaro.
Driving style assessment
Transparency about the driving style is provided by the driving style assessment, which enables the operator to "look over the driver's shoulder". It serves as a realistic assessment basis for reducing fuel consumption and vehicle wear, while enhancing passenger safety. The driving style assessment analyses the individual driving style and points out potential need for training.
Tracking services
The tracking services ensure full transparency about the locations of the vehicles in the fleet, as they enable the locations and routes of all the buses to be accessed at any time. Using a digital road map, not only the current location but also detailed route tracking can be retrieved. Geofence geographic monitoring allows operators to manage and monitor vehicles entering or exiting a pre-defined geographical zone.
Operational planning
The operational planning provides an online route planner that offers everything bus operators, bus drivers and especially dispatchers need for their daily planning.
Time management
Operators in the touring sector benefit from "time management". This service facilitates the legally mandated read-out and archiving of driver cards. With the driver card download and the mass storage download of the digital tachograph, operators can read out the data directly from the vehicle, regardless of its location. The current status of driving and resting times is also visible.
Operational monitoring of the fleet
For entering the innovative world of telematics of Daimler Buses, Omniplus offers a free service bundle at the fleet level from July 2019 under the name 'Operational monitoring'. In addition to fuel consumption data for conventionally powered buses, this bundle will then also include figures for the state of charge or the remaining range of the new Mercedes-Benz eCitaro.
In "Download minimal data set" feature, Omniplus offers publicly funded research projects on the electrification of public transit a tool for collecting and analysing data. Furthermore, the potential savings of the fleet are calculated based on the consumption and driving style data. Pre-departure checks and individual checks can be monitored and managed with the help of the "Vehicle checks" feature.
Operational monitoring vehicle
With the operational management at the vehicle level, Omniplus gives companies the possibility to analyse the already familiar service for the operational monitoring of the fleet in detail for every vehicle. As a result, companies not only have an eye on their fleet, but also on each individual vehicle.
The bundling under Omniplus On will make it possible in future to tailor the services for efficient fleet operations even more specifically to the needs of the bus customers.
Omniplus On drive: support for the driver and company
Omniplus On looks out for both the operator and the driver equally, as Omniplus On drive shows. A host of functions supports the driver. Pre-departure check, online operator's manual and options to report damages – a new digital world is opening up.Key vehicle functions are also monitored by the "Remote Bus" app. Among other things, this includes the tyre pressure of each wheel, diesel and AdBlue levels, and monitoring all exterior lights. The driver can access this information with the app on a smartphone.
Finding instead of searching: Maintenance histories, operating manuals and additional instructions from Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses can be accessed via the "Bus Guides" internet page that also runs on mobile devices.
For the pre-departure check, Omniplus On drive guides the bus driver through the process with a checklist. Every single item is documented. The driver can record defects in writing as well as by taking a picture, and send the information to their operator together with the log. The company therefore has proof that the pre-departure check has been carried out. At the same time, steps can be taken to remedy any potential defects.
Drivers are also able to document potential damages while on the road. These reports are stored, and can be viewed and edited by the operator in the Omniplus On portal.
Omniplus On commerce: parts procurement in the new Omniplus eShop
It is easy to get used to: Online shops are open 24 hours a day. Searching, ordering, buying – everything works very easily just by clicking. Online ordering has also caught on in the field of automotive parts with the Omniplus OnlineParts Shop as one of the pioneers. It will transform into the Omniplus eShop starting in the middle of 2019 – and it can do everything much better still.
The new web store of Omniplus offers the entire range of parts. And it knows the specifics of the ordering party's fleet: The right parts are already pre-selected. Users can also see whether the needed parts are in stock at their preferred service centre. Or they can have the order delivered directly to their business. Incidentally, employees no longer need to walk circuitously from the workshop to the computer in the office with notepad in hand – the Omniplus eShop also runs on a smartphone or tablet.
Omniplus 24h Service on 365 days a year
Digitisation also aids and the classic services of the Omniplus service brand. They also will be expanded further.
Should a bus or coach break down, the Omniplus 24h Service is available around the clock in conjunction with one of the service cards. Customers can reach the service throughout Europe via a toll-free hotline at the number 00800 40 20 40 20. The driver, in his or her own national language, notifies the Omniplus 24h Service at the international control centre. They inform the nearest service outlet.
Omniplus ServiceCard and service contracts: two-stage concept
The Omniplus ServiceCard Premium is available free of charge to Mercedes-Benz and Setra bus and coach customers for two years. Customers who can do without some parts of the extensive service package can opt for the ServiceCard Basic. This is valid for no less than six years, and includes the Basic mobility package. With this, Mercedes-Benz and Setra bus and coach customers are able to obtain certain services quickly, easily and without cash payment, including regular maintenance.
Operators who attach importance to a fleet in peak condition and calculable costs opt for a service contract. The BasicPlus package includes all necessary maintenance work as specified in the service booklet, plus selected wear-related repairs. The Premium package additionally includes all other repairs to the vehicle except tyre replacement or physical damage.
Genuine replacement parts now straight from the printer
As a manufacturer's brand, Omniplus genuine parts are proper parts in OEM quality for Mercedes-Benz and Setra. Saving money without compromising quality is what the genuine remanufactured parts guarantee. They match the quality of a new part. Omniplus also uses the advantages of 3D printing. To date, numerous components for customer vehicles have already been printed. Omniplus is currently examining more than 2000 bus parts for their feasibility as 3D printed parts. Every 3D component can be reordered by customers with the specific part number. It is available in the digital warehouse worldwide even decades later.
BestAge Repair: keeping buses and coaches fit to run longer
Buses and coaches that have been on the road for many years require repairs and touch-ups to maintain their value every now and then. Every bus no matter how fascinating will eventually turn into a pre-owned bus. Many bus operators throughout Europe trust in the quality of tried and proven buses and coaches from Mercedes‑Benz and Setra. A job for BusStore. The quality brand of Daimler Buses for pre-owned buses and coaches is celebrating an anniversary this year. Five years after being founded, BusStore has earned a leading position in the pre-owned bus business in Europe. BusStore moves even closer to its customer in the anniversary year: This involves additional locations as well as further expanded services.
Even closer customer proximity thanks to five more locations
The BusStore outlets in Zagreb/Croatia, Bratislava/Slovakia, Budapest/Hungary as well as Cesis/Latvia are new additions this year. BusStore has additionally expanded its presence in France with an outlet in Albi, north-east of Toulouse. BusStore is now present in a total of 19 locations in Europe. BusStore is already planning its next expansion.
Due to the different legal forms in the individual countries, BusStore now for the first time makes a distinction between BusStore Centres and BusStore Partners. Centres are Group-owned companies, partners are contractual partners, but separate legal entities. In practice, there is no difference for the customer: The comprehensive commitment to service is the same across all locations.
New warranty for buses and coaches up to six years old
This applies to the warranty as well. BusStore has extended its services in this area. The one-year BusStore warranty on the powertrain of Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses and coaches is now being extended to buses up to six years and with up to 600 000 km on the clock.

The hallmark traits of BusStore are the unrivalled vehicle pool with several hundred pre-owned buses and coaches throughout Europe and unique services ranging from the careful inspection and reconditioning of pre-owned buses and coaches, and the transparent classification as belonging to the categories Gold, Silver and Bronze, to warranties and services. BusStore markets some 2000 buses and coaches a year in this way.
All sites of BusStore are located in the vicinity of major Omniplus service centres. This ensures maximum expertise for the reconditioning of any pre-owned bus. Potential buyers are able to search for the bus or coach they want not just at their national location, but throughout Europe. In addition to the personal contact or a query, it is especially the homepage page www.bus-store.com in 20 languages that is ideal for this purpose.
