Stuttgart — Elmar List from Drolshagen always makes sure to show his appreciation of his drivers’ performance. “I can rely on my drivers,” says List, who runs his own haulage company. “The drivers make a very good impression with the customers and keep their vehicles in top condition.” That’s why List added an Actros Edition 2 truck to his vehicle fleet as a token of his esteem for one of his employees. The Edition 2 is limited to 400 vehicles and boasts around 40 pieces of optional equipment — everything that a driver dreams of — inside and outside the truck.

Luisa Kettling is extremely happy to be driving it. She even picked the vehicle up from the plant in Wörth. “The Edition 2 is simply a brilliant place to work,” she says. The range of optional equipment includes an instrument panel and door handles covered with nappa leather, a carbon fibre look for various parts, and a roof hatch with ambient lighting. Even the start menu in the display of the Multimedia Cockpit was adapted. Moreover, an “Edition 2” badge in brushed aluminium decorates the interior on the co-driver side.

The vehicle’s exterior is striking as well: The sun visor boasts four additional LED spotlights as well as an “Edition 2” badge, the vehicle front is painted a metallic

moonstone grey, and there is an illuminated Mercedes star on a black moulding. The trim strips are in dark chrome, while the headlamp surround features darkened trim. Star pattern decals are attached to both sides of the cab and the word “Actros” can also be found on the back. Stainless steel steps lead up into the cab.

Luisa Kettling has been a professional driver for the past five years. She drives the Edition 2 for the steel industry. Several times a day, she transports slag and rock from a stainless steel works in Witten and from blast furnaces in Duisburg to a landfill in Siegen. She carries recycled materials and rocks on her way back. A typical working day begins at 3:30 a.m. so that she can avoid the morning rush-hour. She has had a lot of first-hand experience with trucking since since both her father and grandfather were professional drivers. However, the Edition 2 can’t be compared with their trucks. There is one feature in particular that Kettling no longer wants to miss: the MirrorCam. “It simply lets me see better, especially when it rains,” she says.

The Actros Edition 2 special model has been available since January 2021 for all two and three-axle trucks of the latest Actros generation, featuring GigaSpace and BigSpace cabs. It should be pointed out, however, that the vehicle was in great demand and has long been sold out.
